Junior A Hurling Championship.

Lisgoold 2-16 v 2-12 Killeagh

A great start and a strong finish were crucial factors as Lisgoold advanced to the semi-finals of the Jamsie Kelleher Cup at the expense of Killeagh in this entertaining clash last Saturday evening in Castlemartry. Lisgoold got off to a great start with 1-4 on the board after 6 minutes with points from John Cashman, Jack Ryan and Maurice O’Connell and a goal from Liam O’Shea who rounded his marker in the left corner, before a blistering run and an expert finish. Killeagh, playing with a sweeper, stuck to their game plan and managed to tightened things up considerably as the scores dried up for 12 minutes before they registered their first score. The sides traded scores in the lead up to half-time, including a fantastic 40 yard sideline cut from Liam, before Killeagh struck for goal to leave the half-time score 1-09 to 1-06. The second half was an even affair as the sides continued to swap scores. However, Killeagh never managed to draw level and a Lisgoold goal on 23 minutes put them 6 points up as the clock ticked into the stages. The goal was set up by Jamie Woods who drew the defence with a direct run before finding Jack Ryan with a one handed flick. After the game resumed following treatment of Brendan Flynn for a head injury, John Cashman pointed and another sublime sideline cut from Liam put Lisgoold 8 points up on 33 minutes. Killeagh fought back but a last minute goal was not enough as Lisgoold look forward to hurling and football semi-finals.

Juvenile Summer camps

Summer Cúl Camp – Last week, Lisgoold GAA Club hosted another successful hurling and football Cúl Camp, with over 100 children attending. The camp was coordinated by Aidan Forest and ran from Monday to Friday. The kids left each day tired, but happy and returned each morning with renewed enthusiasm. Highlight of the camp for many was the visit of Shane Kingston who stood in for penalty shoot outs, passed on advice to the kids and signed autographs. For others, the visit of the ice-cream van was the high point and everyone had good fun at the water fight on the final day. A special thanks to the excellent coaches who worked tirelessly to ensure the kids had five fun-filled days. A final word of thanks to all involved in the organization, especially Aidan.
