Junior Round Up

County Hurling League.

Lisgoold 1-19 v 0-13 Nemo Rangers.

After suffering a loss in the East Cork league to Cobh (1-19 to 1-09) the week before, Lisgoold hurlers kept their 100% record in the County League with an away victory over Nemo Rangers on Sunday morning. Lining up without a few regulars, Lisgoold took a 2 point lead at half-time on a scoreline of 0-08 to 0-06 with John Cashman the scorer in chief. Lisgoold scored a decisive goal through John on 40 minutes and despite sustaining a couple of injuries, the lads kept the scoreboard ticking over in the second half with Jerry O’Connell coming back after his honeymoon to fire over 2 fine points. The best performers on the day were Kieran Cashman, Cian Scannell, Brian Clifford and Caoimhan O’Shea. Overall, a good workout which should get the lads back on track as they face into championship run-in. Team: C. Cronin, A. Donovan, C. Cashman, C. Scannell, C. Healy, K. Cashman, B. Flynn, B. Clifford,  P. O’Mahony, Caoimhan O’Shea (0-01), J. Cronin (0-01), M. O’Connell, J. Murphy, J. Cashman (1-11; 0-04 frees), C. O’Shea (0-02; 0-01 free).  Subs. J. O’Connell (0-02). B. O’Sullivan.

Junior Hurling League Div. 3 Result: Watergrasshill 3 - 13 vs 1 - 08 Lisgoold.

Cork Junior Footballers

John Cronin played wing-back on the Cork Junior football team who defeated Waterford in the Munster championship last Saturday night. A first-half goal from John was the key score in enabling Cork to forge a 1-6 to 0-5 interval lead, before Cork pushed on to win out comfortably in the end on a scoreline of 3-21 vs 0-09.

Juvenile Round Up.

Commiserations to our U14 hurlers who lost out to St. Kevin’s (Ballyclough-Milford) in the Cork Feile B qualifier on Saturday. It was a great achievement for this young U14 team to qualify for the Cork finals the previous weekend after topping a group consisting of St. Colman’s, Fr. O’Neill’s, Castlelyons and St. Catherine’s through a last minute goal in the final game against St. Catherine’s. The concluding stages were decided on Saturday in Kilavullen. St. Kevin's emerged from their semifinal against St. Vincent's while Lisgoold won the other semifinal against Aghabullogue. In the final, St. Kevin's had a comprehensive win over Lisgoold and they go on, along with Sarsfields, Na Piarsaigh and Cuchullains to represent Cork in mid-June at the National Feile competition in counties Carlow, Wexford and Kilkenny.

Our U8s embarked on their Trip to Tipp last Sunday week as they took part in a mini-tournament in Ballylooby on the way to Thurles before attending the Cork-Tipp senior hurling championship game.

On July 1, the club will host an U10 tournament in honour of club stalwart Dan Joe McCarthy, RIP. Teams from Fingallian’s (Dublin), Blackrock (Co. Limerick) and Loughmore-Castleiney will take part and further details will be provided in the next issue and through social media.
