Junior Footballers start season on a winning noteEast Cork Football Junior League Div 2. Lisgoold 1-10 v 1-05 Cobh

This was another good run out at home in very heavy conditions. Following on from last week, there was another debutant with Cian Healy coming on for his first junior outing. Playing into a very strong wind in first half, the lads were in a nice position at half-time being only 1 point down at 0-5 to 1-1. The goal was a fine solo effort from John Cronin; a 40 yard run and a cool finish through the keeper’s legs and the point was from a John Cashman free. On the turnaround, 3 quick scores in the first few minutes created a buffer between the sides. The pick of the scores was a huge Kieran Cashman point from all of 50 yards out. Kieran set the ball on the right path and the wind did the rest! Cian got on the score sheet with a neat point. The next fixture Sunday 5th March vs Russell Rovers 12pm in Lisgoold. Team: C. Cronin, Caoimhan O’Shea, B. Flynn, A. Donovan, K. Cashman (0-01), C. Cashman, P. Leahy, J. Cashman (0-04), C. O’Brien, Pa O’Mahony, J. Cronin (1-02), L. Stack, C. Scannell, N. Connery, B. Whelan. Minor Football League. Lisgoold 1-10 v 3-08 Carrigtwohill.

In their first of their 5 football league games, the lads performed well but just ran out of steam towards the end. The squad was down a few of the up to age regulars on the day due to Cork and Imokilly commitments, but some of the younger lads like Jamie Browne, Liam Walsh and Cormac Hallahan were called upon and acquitted themselves very well. The game itself featured some very good scores from play and frees by Rob Williams. Rob Kinnane and Jamie Browne also registered scores before a great goal from Evan Manning after a quick free from Rob.

Team: 1. Jamie Browne, 2. Cian Healy, 3. Rob Kinnane, 4. Stephen Roe, 5. Jason Hegarty, 6. Sean Whelan, 7. Liam Stack, 8. Declan O Brien, 9. Evan Manning, 10. Rob Williams, 11. Liam Walsh, 12. James Murphy, 13. Emmet Roche. Subs: 14. Cormac Hallahan, 15. Ross Shanahan.
