Junior Footballers start season on a winning note

East Cork Football Junior League Div 2. Lisgoold 2-07 v 1-06 Aghada

After a couple of disappointing seasons on the football front, it was important to get early momentum going last Sunday morning in the first outing of the year. The team management has changed with Donal O’Leary, Kevin O’Shea and Dan Kelleher taking charge and the playing ranks has been boosted by a few additions from the juvenile ranks including Liam Stack and Sean Whelan who made league debuts. Cathal Cashman captains the side this year and Brendan Flynn is the vice-captain. February football is rarely a spectacle, but to be fair, it was a fine performance from the lads. Playing against the elements in the first half, Lisgoold got off to a great start with a quick point from Jamie Woods followed soon after by a well taken goal. However, the scores dried up with some wayward kicking and broken down plays in the middle area after some over handling. After being denied a goal chance by Ciaran, Aghada kicked some excellent scores to tie up the game at half-time. Playing with the elements in the second half, a more direct approach was rewarded with scores from John Cashman (0-02), John Cronin (0-02) and a further 1-02 from Jamie. Aghada were encouraged with a late goal but the lads held out for a deserved win.
