U21 East Cork Hurling B Final
Lisgoold 1-17 vs 1-19 Castelmartyr
A brave performance, but ultimately this match ended in disappointment for the Lisgoold U21s who were defeated by Castlemartyr last Sunday in Carrigtwohill. This was a young Lisgoold U21 team with only 2 players outside of this or last year’s minor team. These teams knew each other quite well after spending a couple of years of being amalgamated at this level. Lisgoold played with the benefit of the stiff wind blowing down the village end and Castlemartyr sought to nullify the wind advantage by playing an additional midfielder. Despite this Castlemartyr were quicker to settle into the game and their pacy wide players were causing our defence plenty of problems. In contrast, Lisgoold were relying on Ciaran O’Shea’s accuracy from placed balls. After a well worked goal by the Reds on 20 minutes, it looked like the game was slipping away from Lisgoold as Castlemartyr built up a seven point advantage. However, a goal bundled home by Caoimhan and a couple of terrific long range points from Kieran Cashman served the foundation for a strong fightback. The first half was a high scoring event with one point separating the sides on 1-13 vs 1-12. Scores were harder to come by in the second half as both defences got on top. An early second half sideline on the 21 yard line, cut over by Liam O’Shea, was a highlight of the half. The teams swapped points with Liam and Caoimhan scoring for Lisgoold. With 10 minutes remaining and the scores level, another goal mouth scramble almost resulted in a second Lisgoold goal, but Caolan’s goal bound effort hit a Castlemartyr leg and away to safety. Down at the other end, another goal chance came to nothing as Daragh Fleming pulled off a great save to keep Lisgoold in the game. Castlemartyr closed out the game with a couple of late points to seal the win.
Team: Daragh Fleming, Sean Whelan, Brendan Flynn, Sean Nagle, Cian Healy, Kieran Cashman (0-4, 3 f), Fergal Roche, Coalan O’Brien (0-1), Ciaran O’Shea (0-4f), Bill Whelan, Jack Ryan, Caoimhan O’Shea (1-2), Donncha Moynihan, Liam O’Shea (0-6, 0-2 f, 0-1 sideline), Liam Stack. Subs: James Murphy.

London Senior Hurling Final
Congratulations to our exile Conor Walsh, who won a London senior hurling medal with  Robert Emmetts as they retained their status as champions of London hurling with a four-point victory over St Gabriels (2-13 vs 1-12) in Greenford, West London on Sunday. Conor lined out at corner back and he played his part in nullifying any goal threat St. Gabriels carried.
